Rack And Pinion Rotary Actuator

The rack and pinion type actuator, in order to transmit the same torque, is required to be much bigger in size than the rotary vane motor. Generation and transmission is carried out via a rack piston which is positioned transversely to a drive journal fitted with a pinion. The resulting shear forces that occur between the gear teeth and the opposing back of the piston are hydraulically balanced, or supported by roller bearings depending on the design.

These actuators are particularly suitable for high torques.
